🔥 Big News: Hello Nurze's State of Home Health Nursing Survey Is Now Peer-Reviewed and Academic Journal Published! ✨

Families Are Filling the Gaps in a Failing Pediatric Home Health System—Now the Data Makes It Undeniable

We’re thrilled to announce that Hello Nurze’s State of Home Health Nursing Survey—a national survey exposing the pediatric home health nursing crisis—has been officially published in Home Healthcare Now, the leading peer-reviewed journal for home care nursing.

This is more than a milestone. It’s a turning point for families of medically complex children who have long been overlooked—navigating life at home with hospital-level needs and little to no professional nursing support.

What the Data Reveals About the Pediatric Home Health Crisis

The findings from our national survey highlight just how widespread and devastating the shortage of pediatric home health nurses has become.

Key Statistics from the State of Home Health Nursing Survey:

  • 🩺 86.8% of families want in-home nursing and had hours approved by insurance
→ 🚨 But 47.5% received fewer than half of those approved hours

  • 🏠 28.3% of families went home from the hospital with no nursing support at all

  • 🏥 37.9% experienced extended hospital stays solely due to lack of home health nursing

  • đź’Ľ 87.8% had to make major employment changes—including 31.8% who lost $50K–$100K in household income
→ ⚠️ And 78.4% of that financial burden fell on mothers

Behind the Numbers: Families Are Filling Critical Nursing Gaps

These aren’t just numbers—they are urgent warning signs of a collapsing care system.

Behind every statistic is a family stretched to the edge, delivering hospital-level care at home—tracheostomies, ventilators, feeding tubes, complex medication regimens, and sleepless nights—without the skilled nursing support they desperately need.

This pediatric home health crisis remains largely hidden from public view. But it’s happening every day, inside the homes of families across the country—families who are forced to become full-time caregivers, medical coordinators, and advocates just to keep their children safe.

Families are holding together a broken system with their own hands—paying the price with their health, their livelihoods, and their children’s safety.
No parent should have to risk their child’s life due to a lack of in-home nursing care.

Why This Publication Matters

Having this research published in a respected, peer-reviewed medical journal is a major step forward. It transforms lived family experience into academic evidence, bringing long-overdue visibility to a crisis that has gone unaddressed for far too long.

It also strengthens our call for policy change, hospital support, and nursing workforce development that prioritizes the needs of medically complex children and their caregivers.
